Valkyrie Floor Angels is an Awareness team located in Enschede (The Netherlands), with a soft spot for the nightlife. We collaborate with events, organizers and venues to provide safe and inclusive spaces for their visitors.

As Floor Angels, our research-based approach focusses on de-escalation through bystander-prevention methods. We combine awareness training and harm reduction education with our passion for dancing and music, allowing our angels to seamlessly blend in with the vibe and spirit of the crowd.

Outside of the dancefloor, we provide organizations and venues with a wide range of supportive resources, educational tools and training to grow themselves and their community in a healthy and sustainable way.

Creating safer spaces

There are many definitions and ideas about safe spaces, but the simplest one is a space where anyone, regardless of age or gender, can dance with their eyes closed without having to worry about being judged, harrassed, (sexually) assaulted or having their physical autonomy intruded upon without their enthousiastic consent.

We consider these spaces an integral and essential part of events, rave culture and the night life. Safe spaces allow people to be themselves, while they grow, heal and explore the boundaries of their creativity and comfort.

Floor Angel Deployment

Depending on the size and needs of your event, Floor Angels can be deployed to create an extra safety cushion between visitors and security. Floor Angels work with a minimum of three people per shift, and require access to a seperate and closed off area to use as an Awareness area.

Education & Training

Working in the nightlife comes with it's own specific set of challenges and risks, both for your crew and visitors. How do you evaluate an area for safety, or reduce blindspots? How do you deal with abuse in- or towards the crew, or how do you appropriately take care of a guest who'se had a little bit too much? How can you communicate your desired mindset with your community and audience, both directly and indirectly?

During our organizer workshop you'll delve into the different elements involved in creating safe, inclusive and diverse events, based on relevant research, scientifically proven methods and hands-on experience. Each workshop is tailored towards the needs and realities of your organization, and aims to exand beyond to prepare you for the future. It also includes elements from our Floor Angel workshops, like dealing with sensitive situations, de-escalation and harm reduction.

The minimum required group size for our workshop is 4 people. If you're unable to meet that number, we might be able to add you on to a different workshop.

Besides venues and organisers, we provide crews and visitors with the following workshops: Awareness, Consent, Harm Reduction as well as Floor Angel training.

For events we also have an Information Booth setup, where visitors can engage with harm reduction knowledge in a playful way, while getting educated in taking better care of themselves and others.

Who we are

Valkyrie Floor Angels traces it's roots to an experimental collaboration between Amnesty International Twente and the Enschede underground, to celebrate and bring awareness to consent in the night life.

The concept was officially pilotted on the Green Vibrations Festival at the University of Twente, and Floor Angels have been present in Enschede ever since.

Our crew is brought together by a shared understanding that creating open and inclusive spaces where people can freely - safely - express and enjoy themselves, need some care-taking.
